HISTORY
OF ST.PATRICKS CHURCH:
The
present Church of St. Patrick is just sixty years old and replaced
an older church on the same site.
The
bell tower of the old church was retained and the bell still tolls
daily inviting people to prayer.
Christianity
has a long history in Skerries dating back to the 6th century when
a monastic settlement was established on St. Patrick's Island or
Church Island .
It
is said that St. Patrick landed on this island on his mission to
convert Ireland to Christianity
