The bell tower of the old church was retained and the bell still tolls daily inviting people to prayer.

Christianity has a long history in Skerries dating back to the 6th century when a monastic settlement was established on St. Patrick's Island or Church Island .

It is said that St. Patrick landed on this island on his mission to convert Ireland to Christianity
